April 20, Last Day :(

The Hyatt we stayed in was 1/2 block away from Union Station. It was a really nice hotel, but unfortunately when we got there at 11:30 the only room they had left was one that smelled of smoke and had only one king size bed. We managed to get one roll away. So after a rough night, we were ready to spend the last morning in D.C.

Throughout the whole trip, the weather has been cooperative and pleasant. Not so much today. It was raining and at times, a veritable downpour. Still, we managed to have a walk around the capitol. It was actually pretty fun; no crowds and everything was washed clean. The flowers were beee-you-tee-full!

We also walked around Union Station, who thought transportation hubs could be so pretty? We Walked to the hotel, gathered up our luggaged and dragged it to Judiciary Square where we went to visit the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. Brad especially wanted to visit the memorial because in the early 1920s, his great grandfather Parley L. Bennett, was killed in the line of duty when his was a police officer in Los Angeles. When he was killed, his wife and two kids had to move back to Idaho. Here are some pictures of Caleb and Rachel making rubbings of his name.

There was a metro stop right in the middle of this monument, so we hopped on the metro to catch a bus to go to the airport. By then it was raining torrentially. I'm sure glad the weather held up for this trip.

We had a wonderful time on this trip, it really was one to remember for many years to come. Thanks for indulging me and allowing me to share it with you.

We used all sorts of modes of transportation on this trip; airplane, bus, metro, limo, lots (I mean LOTS) of walking, and even some weird shuttle that looked like something from Woody Allen's "Sleeper." I guess we never got on a boat or rode a bike. I think for our next trip, I'll look into traveling by Segway. . .
