Sulphur Creek

We woke up Sunday morning and had breakfast out on the porch. When we were done, we drove to the Visitor Center. There is a creek that runs by the visitor center and we were going to hike up it. Let the adventure begin! As an aside, I have to say-I love my Keen sandals! They are comfortable, have good traction and getting them wet is not an issue. As you can see, the kids didn't have a problem with getting wet either.

The kids were really great about helping Grammie at the stream crossings. They moved rocks into the stream to make dry places for her to step on and they held her hand to help her cross. Thanks Susan for being such a good sport!
We came to a waterfall where we had to climb over to continue. With the help of Brad and Derek, Laura, the kids and I managed to get up. This is where we said goodbye to Ellie, Grammie and Grampa. They hiked back out and went on a nice drive while we continued on. At this point, Derek and Laura threw caution to the wind and walked in the creek. Brad stubbornly tried to keep his feet dry. As you can see, on the way back, even he decided to get his feet wet. The hike was a lot easier when you didn't have to pick your way across the water. We hiked about three miles in, had a nice little lunch and hiked back out, some of us (Caleb and Max) with wet underpants. Woo! Talk about chaffage! We went back to the hotel and the kids jumped into the hot tub and the pool. I think in a kid's opinion, any trip is a good trip if there is a swimming pool at the hotel.

We had a nice lunch of Subway sandwiches and had a discussion about politics and current events (a prerequisite if you are going to spend any amount of time with the Millers). All in all, it was a well deserved break after a fun six mile hike. Hmmm, I wonder what we're doing after lunch?

Holy Cow Winnie! You guys are an adventurous bunch! We have never done anything like that. I'm jeoulous of your little mountain goats. I'm not sure any of my kids would go for that now. You have to train them little. Plus I would have to turn back with Grandma because it would probably kill me to hike that far. Good training for your triathalon though. Hey, by the way...love the Indiana Jones look on Brad!
