This is my grandma. Although I've never called her Grandma, she's always been Poa Poa. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Chinese, that means grandmother on your mother's side. For the past thirteen years, we also call her Bak Bak. That is great-grandmother for you English speakers out there. She's lived with my mom for the past 34 years. She's seen Ed and me go to school, grow up, move out and start lives of our own. She's been around for the birth of my children and gave them contraband candy and treats more times than I can remember.
Yesterday she moved to Texas to get ready to move into a house of her very own. My mom, aunt and uncle have bought her a house less than a mile away from my cousin's house in Fort Worth.
She's a little nervous to have a place of her own but she's really excited, too. My mom is flying down there in two weeks to buy furniture and decorate her house.
We can't wait until we can go down and visit her in her own place and have her play the role of the host. I know she'll relish that new responsibility. She's a healthy as a horse and I'm pretty sure she will outlive me. I'm going to miss her and how she is always itching to go shopping. I'm going to miss how she's always telling Rachel, Emma and Caleb that they are such good kids. I will miss her always giving me fresh vegetables from the garden she so lovingly tended. I think I'm even going to miss the extremely weird and almost inedible things she was always cooking.
Of course she'll be coming back to Utah to stay on extended visits so it won't be long until we see her again.

Winnie you can't even imagine how much I ADORED this post about your Poa Poa. I too have a grandma with a different name that we called "Teta" our whole lives. She passed away Oct 2006. I loved reading about how close your whole extended family has been through the years and what your grandma has meant to you. She seems like the sweetest grandma. By the way, I think your mom is darling. Your four generation photo is priceless. Check out mine in my 2006 section under the post "She lives." I hope you get to visit your grandma soon. What a blessing that your kids know their Bak Bak. I love it!
What a great tribute to your Poa Poa. I have such a special place in my heart for our wise elderly parents. My great grandma is 105, turns 106 this year and lives in her OWN APARTMENT. I love our talks and we can gains so much wisdom from their life experience. Your kids are lucky to have that relationship.
Winnie, not sure if you remember me or not but I am one of Brad's missionary companions. I have periodically looked for him on the internet cause I'd really like to see both of you again. This time I lucked out... We moved to Utah and so I think we're close enough to drop by. Let me know.

What a wonderful blessing to have such a great relationship with your Poa Poa. It sounds like a fun and scary time for her and we wish her luck in her new home!
At first I thought you were going to say she passed away. Thank goodness it's not that! It sounds like a great new adventure for her.
Such pretty ladies you all are!
What beautiful women are in your family! It was great to hear some of your family background with Poa Poa. What a wonderful experience to have her so close for so long. I wish her luck in her new Texan adventure!
