Autumn and Red Rocks

Over fall break, we went down to Moab with Brad's parents and enjoyed the milder weather of Southern Utah. The weather was perfect and the company most pleasant. Unfortunately, Rachel wasn't able to come with us because of her basketball practice. She had her first game later that week and she couldn't miss any practices. We really  missed her but we had a great time anyway.

Here are Emma and Caleb enjoying our spacious hotel room in Moab.

Here are Brad, Susan and I enjoying the vista on the Slickrock Trail.
There is a trail in Canyonlands called Cave Springs where there is a abandoned cowboy camp that was in use from the 1860s to the 1970s. There are also a couple of ladders to climb. I highly recommend taking your family there sometime.

Creatures in the rocks.
Emma proving that she can still do pull ups.

That night, we ate at a Mexican Restaurant. The food was really good, but I had this staring at me the whole time. Disturbing. What were they thinking? (The artist and the person who hung it up.) Ack, it gives me a headache.
Brad at the Mesa Arch Trailhead.

Emma atop the Mesa Arch. (Grammie and Grampa were most nervous.)
Caleb taking direction from his dad as to where to safely land.

The gap that Caleb and Emma had to jump over. It was several hundred feet down to the bottom.

Lovely picture of the family (minus one)

Squaw Canyon at Sunset.
Brad and Grammie have a conversation about either politics or health issues. Wait, is someone down there in that crack?

I took several picture just like this:
Before I finally got one like this.

On the last day we drove down the White Rim Road. It was quite an adventure, I think Grammie thought it was an adventure that lasted about an hour too long. Still, we got to see some fantastic scenery. I'm glad we went there. I'm also glad we were there when we were. The week after, there was a fugitive hiding in that area that shot a park ranger.

Headed down the White Rim Road.
With Wood and Susan not far behind...
 Rugged terrain...
...so rugged that Brad had to get out and see which was the best way to drive.
Note the GPS on the dashboard. Proof that we were truly in the middle of nowhere.
The mighty, mighty Colorado

I opened my eyes long enough to take the picture. Watching my family on the edge of a cliff makes me nervous...Yeah, I'm weird that way.

It was a wonderful trip and I recommend anyone who has some extra time in the fall to head down there. The crowds are few, the temperatures are good and if you have someone fun to spend it with, it makes for pleasant holiday.
