We finally made our trip to Yellowstone and the Tetons this year. We didn't go last year because Wood and Susan were in Dubai. But we usually go there several times a year and have done so for the past thirteen years. Why do we go there so often you ask? Simple answer-water sampling. Again, I'm sure that it is an excuse for Brad's dad to go to a place he loves so much and get paid for it. The first time we went there to sample, Rachel was six weeks old and slept in a stroller.
Our little family got there on the 14th. Brad's parents and his brother Derek's family got there a day earlier. We stayed in the cabins at Coulter Bay. We didn't do such a great job with packing this time. We didn't bring our air mattress and sleeping bags. Thanks Derek and Laura, for having the foresight to pack extra sleeping bags so my children didn't have to sleep on the bare floor.
As soon as we got there, we went on our first hike to Moose Pond. For some reason, Caleb didn't want to bring his hiking sandals and he brought boots. He quickly learned that you can't walk in streams in boots the way you can when you're wearing sandals and be comfortable afterwards.
I walked right past this moose by Moose Pond. I was leading the way and I was enjoying the far vistas and just enjoying the fact that I was moving. I missed the moose and Brad called me back to see it. It was only about 20 yards away from the trail. I missed it completely when I walked by. How did I miss that huge animal? Well, right when I walked by it, I was looking down on the trail and noticing that there were a lot of moose droppings. So I missed the moose for the droppings. There's an analogy in there somewhere but frankly, it depresses me to think about it. It doesn't say very much about me. If any of you can think of an analogy that puts me in a better light, let me know.
