Rachel has turned fourteen years old. My how time flies! It really seems like just yesterday when she was only fourteen months old and climbing everything in sight, including up door frames. Let me tell you, I had a heart attack the first time I saw my baby shimmying up a door frame like she was going to pick coconuts. Well, that hasn't changed much, she's still climbing anything that will hold her.
I loved her the moment I first set my eyes on the wrinkly baby with feet too big for her tiny body and I love her even more now. There are so many reasons, and today, I will share ,oh maybe, fourteen of them. (You see how this works?)
1. She is a really compassionate person. She tries to make everyone around her feel welcome and included.
2. She is very tidy. Her room is always clean. Even when she was little, she was always making sure that her toys were lined up perfectly. That is definitely a Miller trait, I know that she didn't get that from me.
3. She has a quirky sense of humor. She can always make me laugh.
4. She loves her sister. She told me the other day that she felt sorry for me because I didn't have a best friend to grow up with like she does. She says that she couldn't imagine life without having Emma there.
5. She loves her brother. Many times Caleb will be minding his own business doing his own thing and Rachel will spontaneously grab him and hug him while exclaiming, "Caleb, you are so cute and I love you!" Depending on what Caleb is doing at the time, he either appreciates it or is annoyed by it.
6. She is really helpful. When I went on my trip to San Diego, Rachel really took charge and did the laundry, watered the plants and generally made sure that things were running smoothly. When I came home, Caleb told me, "You know mom, Rachel makes a really good mom."
7. She is unique, and she likes it that way. At this age, many people try to mold themselves to whatever group they are with in order to feel like they belong. If Rachel likes something different, she likes it, regardless of what anyone else says. I wish I could have been like that at fourteen.
8. She has an opinion, and she's not afraid to share it. Rach has always been a high strung person and when she feels strongly about something, watch out. I think that this will serve her well in life but I have to admit that I find it funny when she's ranting about how ugly she thinks a car is.
9. She still wants me to tuck her in every night.
10. She has a really good group of friends that I love. Like attracts like.
11. She is really developing a strong testimony and she is always tries to do what is right.
12. She hums when she eats sushi. She likes it so much that she subconsciously sings when eats it. It makes me smile.
13. She is really fun to talk to.
14. She is every bit as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside.
Happy Birthday, Cho Cho. I love you to the moon and back!
