Half Way Through the Teen Years

Wow. Rachel is fifteen. Where did the time go?!? Rachel, Emma and I were actually at girls' camp at Heber Valley over her birthday. She didn't really mind, though, there was a lot of attention lavished on her by the Stake Leaders, the Ward Leaders and her friends. (I'll save our experiences at camp for another post.)

Rachel, Emma and I made her birthday cake when we got back from camp. The homemade marshmallow fondant was easy to make and fun to work with. Rach did a really good job on the lemons. and Em made the dots and the numbers. Pretty cool, huh?

The Saturday after her birthday, she went with Brad to practice driving. Am I ready for this? Apparently, she did great--until she drove the car into the garage and didn't stop in time. She tapped into the cabinet in the back of the garage and broke the drawer. I ran outside to see Rachel and Brad smiling at me from inside the car. I went back inside. Emma and I laughed about it. Em said when she heard the thunk, she first thought is was Caleb running into the door. I don't think I could have handled it as calmly as Brad did. They just backed up and tried it again.

That Sunday, she told the story during Testimony meeting. While she was telling the story, she would turn to me and say, "Stop laughing!" (Which of course made me laugh even more.) I was wondering where she was going with this story, because as amusing as it was, it really didn't seem like a particularly spiritual one. That is when she tied it in. She said that her dad didn't get mad at her when she made the mistake and when she asked if she could try again, he let her. She compared this to Jesus' love for us. When we make a mistake, he stays calm and let's us try again with the Repentance process. Wow, I'm impressed.

She's growing up so quickly. How did my little girl that routinely shimmied up door frames like a coconut tree become such a poised, witty and kind young lady? She has done so much this year that deserves merit. I am so very proud of her and the person that she is becoming.

Rachel is truly an amazing and beautiful young lady inside and out. I loved her testimony and to hear how grown up she really is becoming. You have done a wonderful job with all your kids. The cake looks like you bought it from Dippedee!! Holy Cow....and your knitting project....stop it!!!! You're making us all look really bad. Thanks for being such an inspiration in so many ways.
P.S. My sources tell me that all the "boys" in the ward still think Rachel is the coolest girl ever!!
