Grand Wash

After we rested awhile, we told the kids we were going on another hike in the park. Oh, they were not happy. Shoes were slightly damp and we all were a bit tired. We (the adults) wanted to go because Grammie and Grampa cut the morning hike short and they wanted to go on another one. So, with grumbling kids in the cars, we headed back into the park. Caleb was mad! I tried to get a picture of his grumpy face but ended up with a picture of him stomping away. Rachel wasn't grumpy but she felt like she wanted to have a picture with a grumpy pose. I indulged her.

We drove one car to the end of the trail and then went back to the trail head. The Grand Wash is an easy hike, it's fairly level with a well groomed trail. Still, I can understand why they didn't want to hike again. They worked really hard on that hike in Sulphur Creek. Once they hit the trail however, sour spirits dissipated and soon we had giggling kids scaling the walls again.

We hiked along the bottom of the dry river bed. Laura had a nasty cut on her ankle from the earlier hike but with the magic of moleskin, all was well. It was a very relaxing hike. I think one of my favorite visuals is a bright blue sky contrasted against the red rock. I think the colors are more vivid down there. If you ever go down there, I recommend the Grand Wash hike because it's easy and so pretty. When we hiked out the other side of the Wash, Brad, Wood, Derek and Hunter went to get the other cars and we sat by the road and waited (32 minutes to be exact-we timed it). We ate a good dinner at the Capitol Reef Inn and Cafe and slept very well that night. We hiked about ten miles that day. Pretty good, don't you think?

Awesome photojournalism. The blossoming cacti was the perfect touch in which to begin this blog post.

Fun pictures.

Torrey. Yes, Torrey. I've left my mark on Torrey.

Looks like such a fun trip, Winnie. Lots of hiking. You were all very good sports. I'm not so sure I would have been! Wish we could have been there.
