Maybe It's Not Such a Bad Thing

Here is a picture I took today of the front of our house. Bear with me, it's for future reference.

That is a couple of really tall aspen trees. After school today, Caleb and I went to Target to get a bike lock for him because he rides his bike to school and he shares a lock with one of his friends. When we were coming home, we saw Rachel and Emma on the roof. They saw us too, because I saw them scatter and Rachel was running full speed (on the roof, keep in mind) toward the front of the house to scramble down the aspen tree. Can you say scary!?! I was serious when I said in a previous post that I gave birth to monkies, they figured out how to get up on the roof by climbing the aspen tree and then hopping on the roof several years ago.

I called off the roof and dressed them down.

Me: Why? Why?

Them: Because it was cool to be up there.

Me: You know you're not supposed to be on the roof right (it's happened before)?

Them: Well, yeah. What's the big deal? You let us climb the trees all the time.

Me: You're not running full speed in a tree and it isn't a two story drop below.

To make a long story short, I banned them from the computer today as punishment. They came up with these activities instead: putting makeup on each other to be fairies (with my camera to document the proceedings, of course);

playing with our cute little neighbors;

and reading aloud to each other from "The Princess Bride."
An afternoon without being plugged in and they had a good time. We'll have to do this more often (time off the computer, not running on the roof).

Being fairies is better than being on the roof, I think.

So, I want to know if the trees are getting trimmed, or cut down? I don't understand why you don't want your kids running on the roof? :)

I probably would have had a major heart attack right then. Scary! I hope the punishment wasn't so fun (being fairies looked pretty cool) that they want to do it again soon!
